Strengthening Gavi is a way forward for global vaccine equity

The upcoming Biden administration COVID-19 summit shone a spotlight on global vaccine equity failure, where only 16% of people in low-income countries were vaccinated, compared to 80% in high-income nations. Lessons from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, suggest strengthening its role by negotiating equity provisions in vaccine procurement contracts and investing in local vaccine manufacturing training.
