Pandemic treaty is a win for multilateralism and global health

The World Health Organization's new Pandemic Agreement marks a historic step toward global health security and equity. Reached after three years of negotiations, the Treaty outlines commitments to strengthen health systems, improve access to pandemic tools, and tackle disease outbreaks at their source. While key issues like pathogen access and benefit sharing remain unresolved and financing mechanisms are weak, the Agreement lays a foundation for stronger multilateral action, despite waning support from major donors. As countries prepare to ratify and implement the treaty, the challenge will be turning this political consensus into real-world readiness.
