We need a new global compact on vaccines
Amid the emergence of monkeypox cases in the US and Europe, efforts are underway to vaccinate populations using the smallpox vaccine, which offers some cross-protection but is in limited supply. The global vaccine production model favors affluent Western nations over Africa, where monkeypox has circulated for decades without adequate vaccine deployment, highlighting the need for significant changes in vaccine manufacturing and distribution.
