The lessons New York still has not learned from the Covid vaccine rollout
New York's early COVID-19 vaccine rollout failed its most vulnerable residents. Drawing on firsthand experience and data, this article reports how older adults in low-income neighborhoods were left behind. New York's speed-first strategy came at a cost: no transportation, no home visits, and no real outreach for those at highest risk. On paper, coverage rates looked good, but the reality told a different story. A full public review of the city's pandemic response is long overdue.
